Stone Diary 2023

Stone Diary is a short film revealing a day (16th of May 2023) in the life of a three-billion-year-old boulder in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The stone and its surrounding bedrock are comprised of 3,000,000,000-year-old Lewisian Gneiss, one of the oldest rocks on earth. Unimaginable elemental forces were enacted upon it, metamorphic influences of extreme volcanic heat and intense pressure changed its chemical and mineral makeup, fusing quartz, feldspar, and mica. Later, a long period of entrapment in a kilometre thick glacier ice sheet, relocated it to its present suspended location. It has witnessed, cataclysmic extinction events, violent hurricanes, eclipses of the sun, spectacular auroras, encasement in a mountain of ice, visitations by plants, lichens, mosses, animals, and birds. Yet still its sits, patiently absorbed in time.
