In The Open Sea 2002
The title for this video work comes from the opening image of the film, an aquarium exhibit in Norway of a shoal of herring swimming in circles around their confines. The piece continues with an array of views that present aspects of the wilder habitats we have colonised, or taken control of. A pack of wolves are viewed pacing back and forth behind a zoo’s perimeter fence, a man cuts steps into a glacier ready for the tread of the summer visitors. First shown at Houldsworth Gallery, London.
